Description
Made in recycled sterling silver and bronze, the packing shed box is the first silversmithing work I have done for many years, inspired by the many abandoned derelict small agricultural buildings dotted around the rural Devon landscape, no longer used by the small scale market garden farmers . I find the buildings both romantic yet melancholy. I have set out to create a collection of work in the shape of boxes to express the decay of these buildings.
I devised a technique to create the corrugated iron roofs to convey the decades of disintegration and textures of the buildings themselves.
Packing shed no 1 is inspired by a building I drive pass nearly everyday, looking different in all weathers with the moor behind it in the distance.
The corrugated roof lifts off to reveal the silver rafters inside, the are small scale sculptures which have a use, even if it’s just to keep a ring in.
The box is a one off and is presented in a beautiful bespoke walnut box and includes special delivery posting.
